Quilt Preparation Tips
Your quilt top should be as flat as possible and pressed nicely. A quilter is able to "quilt out" fullness to a degree but can not work miracles. Wavy borders may require small well placed tucks to encourage the quilt to lie nice and flat.
The backing should measure from 3 to 4 inches larger than the quilt top on all four sides.
If the backing is pieced, use a 1/2-1 inch seam allowance and press it open to avoid a ridge.
Be sure to trim away the selvages.
Press out wrinkles.
Square up corners.
Most sheets work fine as backings, please wash it a couple times to soften it up and remove any finishes. A sheet with a lower thread count is best.
A busy print back is always welcome, they are very pretty and hide quilting starts and stops well.
